The letter, dated 4 September 1850 to Miss Bannie Munroe [Julia Blanche Munroe Kell] was written while both were at Lamar Hall, Montpelier Institute, and is filled with girlish enthusiasm. Two of the photographs are of Mary Day Lanier, one dated 1874 and signed "For my boy Semmes from Aunt Mary" and the other an undated tintype. The third photograph, of more recent vintage, shows four children at play.
